Monarch | Extracting Data Using Floating Traps

Not all reports come in tabular form. Sometimes, we need to extract data from log files and other sources where fields fall on different positions.

Here we have a router log containing information on network traffic. We see for instance the hostname, interface, input errors, input packets, and so on. These are of course not in tabular form, as we see data falling on different positions throughout the log.

This is where Monarch’s floating trap will be useful as it can extract data from files in which the field positions are not strictly fixed.
