Can someone help me with a Summary Report problem in Monarch 9 Pro?

    Tony Geller

I am trying to create a multiple report summary from five separate reports, which were created in PDF format.

Each report contains a company ID, company name, and a financial balance.

The reports are generated from different divisions within the company, and my aim is to produce a consolidated report showing the balances for each company ID within each division.

I can create the summary showing me a list of each of the fields displaying vertically and showing the report source, but when I try to display the key field values, (division), I get an error saying " across option not available when an item field is defined"

How can I create the summary so that the balances for each division are shown in separate columns?

I do not want to purchase the latest version of Monarch since it is prohibitively expensive for just this one project.

          Hi Tony,

At first guess what you need to do is remove the item field(s).

What are you using them for?

Can you just lose them completely?

If not you need to make them key fields ... however there may be more to it than that as far your needs are concerned.

Can you tell us a little more?

              Hi Grant

              Thanks so much for replying.

The source data comprises five PDF reports generated by an accounting system. The fields that I need to extract are:

account ID, name, and outstanding balance.

These fields appear in each report in vertical columns together with other irrelevant data.

Each report is generated by different divisions within the company, but have identical layouts.

The aim is to get a consolidated report which will give three columns, namely the account ID, name, and outstanding balance, this last field being shown in separate columns, one column for each division.

The final report should look something like this:

Company ID       Name                    Division 1             Division 2             ivision 3             Division 4             Division 5

ID            name                    Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance

ID            name                    Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance

ID            name                    Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance                Balance

The company ID and name fields are common to some but not all divisions. The consolidated report should give a single line for any given company ID, and where no balance is relevant that value should be left blank in that line.

According to the manual this should be achievable by adding a field in the table view calculated to show either the source file name or the file ID.

I can easily generate the consolidated table view showing these values in four columns, with the last column being the calculated field, but when I try to specify this field as a key field, the option to display horizontally is greyed out stop

I cannot work out how to get a key field which will display the above data horizontally in the format above.

I have spent several hours experimenting but to no avail.

Hoping you can give me a pointer in the right direction

              Gratefully
