    Trap Issue

    Kristie _

Hi, I have the following report:   I need to get the records after "non-add notes:" and before "dist amount" totals.  There could be any number of records before and after "non-add notes:".   I have tried multiple ways and I either get all of the records or just the one after non add.  Any ideas?  thanks!!

          Hello Kristie

You can do this by splitting the work between the report window and the table window.

In the report window, trap your detail, even if it picks up records you don't want. Make sure you define an append template that picks up the "non-add" line, and a footer template that grabs the totals.

In the table window, you can then add a filter that just picks up records that have both a valid ( non-null ) append and footer. You might need to experiment with the Cleared by function to tweak your results.

          Best wishes

          Olly

            Hi Kristie,

You should be able to do adding an append template to pick up the "non-add notes" text as a RecordType field. Use "non-add" as your trap.

Looking at the detail lines, there's no way to build a trap that would completely isolate only what you want using a trap only.

This basically means that Monarch will capture all of the records, before and after the "non-add notes" label.

As a last step, to ensure that you don't get the records which may after the footer section, add a footer template using the entire footer as sample text. Don't define any fields.

Now edit the append template and use the "Cleared by" (assuming that you have v10) and set the append to be cleared by the footer.

Finally, in the Table you can build a filter to display only the records which have the non-add notes descriptor.

How does that work for you?

EDIT: Typed too much and Olly snuck in with the same idea.

                Thanks Data Kruncher and Olly.

I have a header template that grabs the date off the report and a report identifier, a detail template that has account number, name, etc, an append with just the Non-add notes field defined as text, and a footer getting the totals at the bottom with no fields defined.  I edited the append template and used Cleared By footer.

I am able to get the results to start there. My header will have different report identifiers but the formats of the body of the reports will be the same.  So one will be LM-19, LC-19, LI-19, etc.   I need just one but all of them after the non-add field are showing the same report identifier as the one with the non-add field so I cannot filter on it.  It is like appending the first one it comes across on down the records no matter what report they are on.  I hope that makes sense.   So much closer than I was this morning!

Adding a field to the footer and hiding it in the table solved the issue.  Thanks so much for your help!

                            Hello all,

That's certainly odd - and hopefully something that can be fixed in a future version. There are two other instances where you might define a "stopper" template - when you want a field to end on "none of the above", or when you want to turn off multi-column regions. For both of these, if I recall correctly, a footer template that doesn't contain any fields will do the job nicely.

It would be helpful if the Cleared By feature could follow the same pattern.

                            Best wishes,
