Ignoring Random Lines in TXT Report

    Sam Chambers

I can't figure out how to deal with this situation.  It's a labor distribution report from our main information system.

All I need are the department totals.  Some totals are formatted like this:

DATE: 08/30/11 @ 1059                                                                   Oconee Regional PP LIVE                                                                                PAGE 3

What's giving me fits is the "line" of dashes just after the "DPT TOTAL DOLLARS" line.  It doesn't appear consistently within the report.  Sometimes the department totals look like this:

      DPT TOTAL HOURS:       61285.70    4382.10      36.31               1825.54                                                          67529.65

How can I tell Monarch to ignore the lines that contain that long line of "-"?

NOTE re. display of reports in the CODE sections.

I had expected the horizontal scroll bars to be active when posting wide reports but I'm not seeing that in  the browser I am using currently.  (I.E. 9)

I'm not sure why ut will see if I can find out.

Howver, using the ZOOM functionality in the browser it is possble to see the correct report layout as posted by zooming out. It may become difficult to read the small font on a typical monitor but the format of the report can be seen.

I hope this information is of some use here.

Sorry that report didn't format well.  It looks fine in the preview.

Let me try to describe the issue...DPT TOTAL DOLLARS has data on two lines.  In the first example, there is a line of "-" that separates the numbers.  In the second example, that line isn't there.  The trap is easy enough to build, but how can I tell Monarch to ignore those "-" characters when they're not always there?  I tried defining one of those lines as a page header, but it didn't work.

          Any thoughts?

            Hello Sam,

I've cut & pasted your data to this - hope I've understood it right:

            [/CODE]

There are two approaches - one in the Report window, one in the Table window.

In the report window, select a two line sample using the data from DEPT B. Select the fields on the first line that you want, and also select the fields on line two. But for the fields on line 2, go into the Advanced tab on the Field Properties dialog, and specify that they should only start on the "Preceding String" of eighteen blank spaces.

The alternative is to define only a one line template, and set the fields to start on line 1 and to end on "blank field values", and then in the Table window define calculated fields using if(left(Textline(;2);1)="-";Textline(;3)).

            Hope this helps,

            Olly
