    Variable Lines of data

    MGradyLBP _

      Good afternoon..

I am new to using monarch and had some web training this week to use it.  The person training was not familiar with how to handle data when the amount of lines for each record in the detail varies.  The detail data is either on one or two lines.  Can someone please advise on how to handle these situations?

The AP transaction is two lines with reference data, invoice date, amount on the first line and more vendor/customer data on the second line, but the GL journal entry is only one line.

      Any help would be great!

          Hi MGrady and welcome,

(First, I'd ask for my money back - for the training, not for the software. Anyone training on Monarch should be familiar with advanced field properties or multi-pass solutions, either of which could solve this in minutes.)

If you post a sample between Code tags, I'll gladly help you out.

          Best wishes,

          Olly

I don't blame the trainer... the trainer is just a user like me, who recommended the software to my company, and was showing me what she knew since I was knew.  It was not a professional Monarch user.

I have been trying to copy in the report, but I can't get it to look good to show my issue.  Any help with posting would be great.

Here is what I can get, but would love to get it to look more like the report.  I read on the FAQ about code, but don't understand how to get it to work.

                  Hello MGrady,

Assuming your report looks like this:

There's several ways to handle this. Assuming you have Monarch v10, and can use Cleared By on templates, then a simple one line detail trapping on ÑÑ/ to pick out the first line, as a detail template, then a trap on ÑÑÑÑÑÑ to pick up a footer template, cleared by the detail template, should give you what you need.

Do drop me an email if you need a model to help show these concepts.

                  Best wishes,

                  Olly
