First row of data, only, contains title....

    illini _

I have a report which lists data for each of 12 months in separate rows.  The first row (only) contains the title of the data, which I am using as the detail line.  The data for the remaining months is lined up under the data for January, with the area under the title being blank on those months.  When I create append lines for the other 11 months, the table is not lining up correctly.  It is skipping the first line (which contains the title info), and moving the data up.

      Any suggestions?

I'm not certain I understand how the the first data row contains the title of the data but you are still able to use it as a detail date line. I can't envisage what the report format looks like.

My initial reaction would be that Appends don't sound like the right way to approach this. Multi-Column regions MIGHT be closer but if the columns are not consistent widths you may need to use some special techniques that were evolved back in the summer.

Obviously in light of my comments above I and not surprised by the columns not aligning well but then nor can I offer any suggestions about how to fix them.

Is this a text based file or a PDF or something else?

Would you be able to post a sample of the report into your next post? Just cut and paste a sample section of the report into the reply window and put the word CODE in square brackets BEFORE the pasted text and then /CODE AFTER the pasted text. That should, with like, retain the original format of the report.

This is still not lining up right for you to see...the months and $$ are aligned under each other in the report, which is a .txt file.

              Thanks,

                  Let's see if this works.

                  OK, I see 2 options.

                  Option 1

You detail template traps for the month and maybe amount  and has 2 fields - month and amount.

You then need an APPEND template to trap for the Description and that has 2 fields - Description and Fiscal Year. That will give you the Append field in every detail record.

                  Option 2

Trap the line and define the 4 fields from line 1 (Fiscal = 2 fields)

In the TABLE for the Description and Fiscal Year fields set the option to fill empty cells from the previous record. That should work well enough, certainly on the sample lines offered. Should work for the whole report BUT, without seeing the whole report, I offer no guarantee!
