Postal trap picks up one line in header.

Formating changes when I posted... rats.

Can't paste it without it becoming mush.

          Try again:

Where does the Postal Trap come into things?

Am I right in assuming that it is something in the body of the report that happend to be picking up on something in what you think of as a page header as well?

Does Monarch see these lines as a page header append section or just more of the report?

If these lines you posted can be Templated as a page header - with or without any fields according to your needs - then the main extraction should just skip over them.

If they are already defined as a page header are and still the extraction trys to extract from there thinking it has found an address area  - then you may have found an error. However I would be surprised if such an error had remained hidden until now so there is probably some rational explanation for what you are seeing. Just need to find it!

The postal trap is the only template defined, and it picks up all the addresses.. BUT also pick up this stray middle of the line from the header.

                /quoteHi Bill,

Looks like you either need to get rid of the banner page of the report before processing (mapping a page header template will only work if all the pages have this header - which I doubt) or add somthing to the trap line which makes forces it to NOT select the line, when it matches the trap, from the banner page. Perhaps a space or two as requirements before the City Name part of the ZIP code line? Something like that should do it.

Alternatively don't use the Postal Trap, grab the section you need with an alternative template and use the more comprehensive "Address Block" functionality - unless you have some users with older versions of Monarch till in use, though if you have V7 and V8 that is unlikely I would have thought. Have a look at the help files in Monarch for a full outline and description. They are, of course, more comprehensive than I can be.

                Have fun.

Sorry to say that it's no pratical to get rid of the top of the report.  It's a print job that I turn into am image and it would require additional software and jobs to get that done.

I took a fast pass at the "address book" ,but must have done something wrong since it was worse that the ZIP trap. droped lines and picked up even more od the header and trailer.

                  I'll try again tomorrow.

                  Thanks,

                    Bill,

For some reason I can't get the sample section to copy and paste well enough to retain the format and create a sample file at the moment but I think if you get the trap for the detail lines to work you should be OK.

It seems to be that your detail records are the lines with "Branch Account" number (They begin with "FEN ..." in the sample.)

So if you create a template for the detail which traps the lines using probably an Alpha Character required at position 1 on the line and than the decimal poiny position over on the right hand side of the line that may be enough. (If not experiment with some extra trap points for characters required or "must be a space".)

Once you get that right none of the lines in the banner section of the first page should be picked up and recorded in the table.

If you set up the position of the address data to be a multi-line field using a suitable "End field on" setting  - probably "None of the Above" - you should be able to to use the Address Block feature on that field once it is in the Table.

There is a risk that some of the Address records do not accurately follow the expected format so you need to consider this when assessing the results - the error flag is provided for exactly this purpose.

If some of your addresses are correct but not standard US formats you may need to look at the parameters and options for setting up address format recognition. The help file is very useful when considering that.

                    I hope this helps.

                    Grant
