Template problem

    blazzercat _

      Greetings,

I have a report in which the data is pretty consistant. Once in a while I get a line with only two fields of data in it. When that happens I need a new line with only those fields in it. These fields are always part of the line above it. The example below is what I mean.

      025550 ORELLANA  5,330.00  7/01/07

                         640.00  7/20/07

      025550 ORELLANA    106.78  9/04/07

I hope this is clear enough.

      Thanks

Does your report look like this (A):

          025550 ORELLANA 5,330.00 7/01/07

          640.00 7/20/07

          025550 ORELLANA 106.78 9/04/07

            /font
or (B)?

          025550 ORELLANA 5,330.00 7/01/07

                            640.00 7/20/07

          025550 ORELLANA   106.78 9/04/07

            /font
025550 ORELLANA    106.78  9/04/07 /font

Do you mean the logical record ouold normally look like this if it was not wrapped?

            025550 ORELLANA  5,330.00  7/01/07 ......  640.00  7/20/07

            025550 ORELLANA    106.78  9/04/07 /font
I.E. the two extra fields are indeed extra fields and not repeat values of the value and date fields in the line above them.

I need to export this report to Excel in the format of example B. I should have previewed the post. The second line of data is associated with the first line. It is normal for it to look like it wrapped.

I think I would create a detail trap based on the decimal point on the value column and/or the "/" characters in the date.

Paint the 4 fields (and any other you may need.)

That will select every line of the report that is populated with a decimal point/Date (depending on how you set the trap) and the first two columns of each record may or may not be populated.

Export from the table and that should be all you need.

                HTH.

Perhaps this sample will clarify things. Not an easy trap.

                  Jones 5,330.00       .00      4,690.00  9/20/07

                                                  640.00  9/20/07

                  Jones      .00  5,501.00

                  Smith 4,690.00       .00      4,690.00  7/31/07

                    /font
/font

Hehe!

How important are samples and the vagaries of individual reports in this game!

Have you tried the "NUMERIC OR" trap?

Looks like it stands a chance of working.

OK...that worked almost perfectly. It is bringing in the subtotals which I can just delete.

                      Thanks again

Could you just filter out the subtotals blazzercat, instead of manually needing to delete them?

Is there something that makes subtotals rows unique that you can isolate?

I was able to filter them out. Thanks for the suggestion.
