Copy Field Values problem

    dbrad _

There is one field in the detail line of my model that only appears on one line but is related to the records below it as well. I can use the Copy Field Values check box to repeat the field on subsequent lines but my problem is that sometimes the value really is blank and I don't want the value above to copy down. I have tried to capture this field as an append to the detail but I get the same problem. The data looks like this:

      PONum  ItemNum Amount

      -

        -

      -

      123    47      100.00

             48      125.00

             50       95.00

      PO 123 Total   320.00

      124    45      100.00

             50      100.00

      PO 124 Total   200.00

             33       50.00

             36      100.00

      PO Total       150.00

      125    47      200.00

      PO 125 Total   200.00
The data that I want extracted is:

      123    47      100.00

      123    48      125.00

      123    50       95.00

      124    45      100.00

      124    50      100.00

             33       50.00

             36      100.00

      125    47      200.00
But I don't know how to stop the 124 from filling in the blank values. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

      Thanks.

          Hi,

          What a nasty little format.

Fill blanks will cause you problems as you know.

          So will appends.

Just take the detail lines ignoring the 123, 124 etc. field.

Then add a FOOTER template using PO as the trap (on the sample layout at least, you may need to adapt) and picke the 123, 124 value position as the field. That should crack it.

The PO line with the blank value - in the sample - has "Tot" instead of the number. If the normal field is numeric "Tot" will appear as either blank or NULL or whatever depending on your options settings. Whatever is there should be managable for your purposes I would expect.

          Hope this helps.

          Grant

I have a similar problem to the one shown below, except I do not have a footer that displays the field that I need in my table.  In the report below, I need PO "1047426" to display for the first two records, but a blank for the third item.

All of the truly blank records will have "A/P No PO" in the Accrual Txn.  One idea was to create a calculated field that changes the copied PO number to blank if the "A/P No PO" appears in Accrual Txn.

Is there a better way to do this?

            Thanks in advance,

            Sue

              Sue,

I would agree that a calculated field is the way that I would approach this, based on the rules you've presented.
