    Continuring Address problems

    Bill Tilghman

Big issue is that the addresses are all different in these Fidelity reports and this one offers a different set of conditions than the last one.

For what ever reason (lack of pratice I suspect)

I keep getting stumped on the last line.

      CANTON      OH 44714   HOME:

      MASSILLON   OH 44647   HOME:

      SAVANNAH    GA 31411   HOME: (912) 598-2

      MONROE      MI 48161   HOME: (734) 241-1

      #7D         BOSTON     MA 02114

That last line is the only correct one.

Version 7.02 and using the top line as add1.

Add2 is two line mask, add3 is 3 line mask, etc.

Line 5 is again the issue since I can't finge a way to stop it from picking up the next line (phone number).

      the reports is like this:

I changed the information here to protect the clients. I'm reviewing the reply from Grant, but still having issues.

      Thanks,

          Thanks, /b[/quote]Bill, try this.

Trap your record first line as normal and include enough line in the data sample to ensure that at least the first line of your address is in the sample - you may need more for other purposes but I am only dealing with the address here.

For the first line of the address - which ever line it is and ONLY the first line of the address - paint a field wide enough to capture everything that may appear in subsequent lines that relates to the address information.

Right Click on the field to get to the field properties.

Click the 'Advanced' tab to get to the advanced properties.

In the 'End Field On' section check the "End of Left Justification" radio button.

The screen should indicate a shaded area for each block of lines which include all the address lines for each record.

          Save the template.

Go to the Table screen. Select the Data menu and them @Address Blocks from the drop down menu.

Add a new Address Block definition - call it what you like and indiocate which address formats the report might need to identify - and put that multiline field you defined in the list of fields to use. I think the Address Block Wizard is clear about what it requires but if not check the help and if that does not answer the question let us know what the outstanding problem is via the forum.

You do need to identify which address lines and fields you need and can name them accordingly or just let Monarch do it for you.

The Wizard will produce some very wide fields by default. You can change both the data and display width of each field through its properties. It may be easier to do that using the "Field List" feature. (Found in the Edit Menu and various other places. Make sure "Show Table Properties" is ticked so that the field sizes and positions are visible.)

Make sure you specify enough Address lines to provide a field for each field in your longest address record. Any unused lines on shorter records will just appear empty.

In your sample addresses the list line of the address block  - Boston, Monroe and so on, does not need count as an Address line field since the Address Block will, providing you ask it to, split that line into City, Region and Postal Code anyway.

There may yet be other "addresses" in the report which don't follow the rules and it may be necessary to apply some special processing after the address line breakout to deal with anomalies. Most database address records have errors of that sort. But if you do have those sort of problems we should look into them AFTER you have got the majority of the records working to a satisfactory extraction accuracy.
