    Replace function

I have a character data field I have defined which has data of varying lengths followed by characters that I want to eliminate.  I can't use the trim functions since the data varies in length.  (i.e.   abcdefg is the longest data in the field;  other instances are abcde =.  Whenever I see the = I want to replace with a blank or space).  Any suggestions?

          Ron,

Have you looked at using the LSPLIT function?

          LSplit(<field like abcdefg>,2,"=",1)

gave me the results that I think you are looking for when I ran a quick test.
