    Importing pdf files

I am trying to import a pdf file into Monarch

9.01 Pro and am just getting a blank screen.  The pdf file was created by scanning a paper report.  Does that make a difference?

Yep, it does make a difference.

PDF's can be created from text, graphics or a mix of both. Monarch (like the Abobe text extraction option in Adobe Reader) can seek to extract the text but can do nothing with the graphics. Hence your blank result.

You could try scanning through an OCR program to convert the scanned document to text rather than an graphic image. How good that would be without operator interaction to correct any misinterpreted or "interpreted with warnings" parts of the document might be questionable. It would depend on a number of factors including the  condition of the original document to be scanned.

If you are looking at occasional use the process steps might not be too bad at the desktop level. There are some clever programs around these days.

If you have a bulk requirement I would talk to a specialist company about what options are available for mass scanning/OCR needs.

Thanks Grant, it was a one time thing so it isn't that important.  Most of the pdf files I get should be ok to process.

            Appreciate your quick response.
