    Filling in Blank Lines

    jenmac _

I'm working with some reports that leave the account number and name blank when it has more than one line. As shown:

      111111   105 CASINO     6E   1

                              6I   9

I want to fill in the blank line with the account number and name from the previous line. The Field Properties screen that has a button to fill empty cells with value from previous record doesn't work with this. Is there a filter I can use to make this work?

      Thanks for any help!

          Hi jenmac,

The easiest way to do this would be if you can defined the DETAIL template so that is only picks up the 3rd and 4th columns from you sample lines and then use an APPEND template for the account number and name. (I am assuming that Account Number is "111111" and name is "105 CASINO". If these are in fact 3 columns then detail needs to be columns 4 and 5 ...)

          Does this help?

The fill with value from previous record ABSOLUTELY works here - AS LONG as you remember that the two first fileds (111111 and 105, whatever they are should be CHARACTER, not numeric - if you need them to be numeric, you can always convert them afterwards with a calculated field and the function VAL()
