Append to stop after first append

    DLONGWORTH _

I am trying to stop a append from being applied to records in which the data is not present. The goal is for the field to be blank when there is no data present

In the report below, my detail lines begin with dates. The error line beginning with "+++++" is the footer I would like to stop, as it does not occur on each record. There is one record for each name with multiple detail lines for each record. The append containing the error line is appearing on all prior detail lines until the next append occurs.

The lines beginning with "Diags" and "Doctor" are appends, along with the lines containing the names.

          Hi Damon,

I'm not quite sure how you get the table display from the report above it. If the error code line is a footer (for the records ABOVE it) how does it become attached to the records below as well?

If the Template type for that line set to footer?

What are you trapping the lines on? I assume the detail lines are trapped on the date format at the start fo the line but what about the append and the footer?

Actually it may be better not to think of it as a footer at all but another append. However it's not wentirely clear to me how we might isolate it and later the association behaviour just yet.

            Hello Grant

All of the traps work as required. The last two lines of the table did not post properly. The fields to the right of the name are shifted.

The detail line begins with the dates and is trapped with the forward slash "/".

The first append captures the numerical values in the line beginning with "Diags:" and uses "Dia" as the trap. The second append captures the account number and name from the line beginning with numerical values and uses "Ail" as the trap. The third append captures in insurance name from the line beginning with "Doctor" and uses "Fmt" as the trap.

The problem / fourth append is the one beginning with "+++" and uses "Fie" as the trap. It is these errors I am trying to find in the report. The error "600" is on all the last 2 lines from the error associated with those detail lines. The error "600" appears on the first 3 lines because there is a record above with this error.

I will adjust the table to make it clearer by making the error "150" from a previous record.

              Hi Damon,

From what you write the detail and the first 3 appends are working fine so I will forget those for this response.

The 4th Append, trapped on "fie" and if identified as an APPEND TEMPLATE should attach itself to all DETAIL records that follow it until it hits another instance of itself OR the end of the report.

If you set it to be a FOOTER append it will attach itsself to all the DETAIL RECORDS ABOVE IT until it finds another instance of itself or the top of the report.

Are there record we no errors to report, thus resulting in the incorrect attachments? Or maybe the error only applies to the first following detail record or only one of the 3 appends related to the patient record?

It certainly loooks like a tricky one to handle if it does not occur for every record for which it MIGHT occur. But I'm not sure what to suggest at the moment because I am not convinced I understand the data relationship between append 4 and the rest of the record(s).

I feel comfortable with the rest assuming that a patient can have multiple records with each being realted to a different "Ail" though I wonder if "Ail" and "Diag" exist as one combination (possibly multiple times) with a patient record. That would mean they could possibly be treated as a single append rather than separate ones, though doing so might make little difference to the result.

Does this move things on at all?

              Grant
