multi-line fields across page breaks

    AchimL _

      Hi,

I am looking for a solution for the following:

This is for Monarch Pro v8.01.

The detail-template involves a multi-line field that is supposed to end with a subsequent empty line.

When the field hits the page break (lets say after the first line), not only do the remaining lines get displayed on the next page, but the full group headers are displayed before the continuing details again as well.

Because Monarch now finds empty rows due to the page break as well as the group headers, the "2nd part of the field" isn´t recognised as such.

How can I get the 2nd part to be linked to the first?

Any suggestion on how to best deal with this are greatly appreciated.

Hi Achim and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried defining the page header as a Page Header template?

Can you include the Group Headers in the Page Header template? (Assuming my interpretation of the layout of the report is correct.)

You perhaps know this already but just in case you do not the page header template makes the lines in contains 'invisible' to other templates for as many lines as are defined as the sample lines for the template definition.

Providing the report format at the top of each page is consistent you should be able to get the result you need.

If the top of page format is not consistent it may be more difficult.

I hope this helps in some way.

            Hi Grant,

            thanks for the warm welcome.

I did think about including the group header into the page header, however it is not the highest grouping level. There is another 3 lines including fields above that.

Making the group headings invisible could be the optimal solution, but I don´t know of a way to do that.

Here is a quick example, maybe you can think of something else.

            Many thanks in advance.

              /font

Hi Achim,

Your example suggest to me that the detail records are 2 lines each and have their own header for the field names.

Above that you have some fields with basic information about the article - 3 lines which would apply to each of the detail lines. So I would make those 3 lines into an APPEND template and capture the required fields.

I may have missed something when I make that basic design assumption though so please tell me if I have.

Your first description  of the problem suggests that the detail lines in a record may be split over a page break. Is that true of the 2 lines I have suggested as detail?

              Example:

              xxxxxxxxx    xxxxxx    xxxxxx    xxxxxxxxxx

              -

              new page -

              Article: xxx      Supplier: xxxx

              Type: xxxxxxxxxxx       Category: xxxx

              Currency: xxx         Description: xxxxxxxxxxxx

              Position:    Volumen:  Amount:   UnitPrice:

                                      Account:        AccCurr:

              -

                                      xxxxxxxxxxxxxx  xxx

              xxxxxxxxx    xxxxxx    xxxxxx    xxxxxxxxxx

                                      xxxxxxxxxxxxxx  xxx

              ...

              -

              EOP -

              /font
If it can be like that then the I would look to see if these lines could be made into a Page Header template to replace the Append Template I mention before.

              Article: xxx      Supplier: xxxx

              Type: xxxxxxxxxxx       Category: xxxx

              Currency: xxx         Description: xxxxxxxxxxxx

              Position:    Volumen:  Amount:   UnitPrice:

                                      Account:        AccCurr:

              -

Does that help at all?

If you have other real page header sections from which you also need to extract data (date of report, etc.) things may get more complicated.
